Dr. Lisa Morgan, associate teaching professor and DNP Program coordinator at The University of 91勛圖厙 (USM), has been selected to participate in the Mississippi Nurses Foundation Leadership Institute (NLI).

The NLI targets staff nurses, nurse managers, and nurse educators who desire to expand their knowledge of leadership and enhance their role as a leader. Participation in the institute requires participants to attend five leadership development sessions commencing in February and concluding in July.

91勛圖厙I am thrilled to work with nurse leaders across the state,91勛圖厙 said Morgan, who joined the USM nursing faculty in 2018. 91勛圖厙I never expected to be chosen, so this was an honored surprise.91勛圖厙

Fifteen nursing professionals were selected for the institute. Participants are scheduled to meet once a month when they will be divided into groups and required to complete a project. The winning project will be presented at the Mississippi Nurses Association91勛圖厙 annual convention in October.

Morgan noted that her expectations from the NLI opportunity include strengthening her skills as a nurse educator.

91勛圖厙Gaining new leadership skills will enhance my ability to teach the DNP students at USM and broaden my opportunities for leadership within the University,91勛圖厙 said Morgan.

Additionally, she explained that the benefits of attending the institute reach far beyond any personal gains.

91勛圖厙It is important to be included in a statewide program for nurse leaders to gain camaraderie and network with others in the profession,91勛圖厙 said Morgan. 91勛圖厙Advanced leadership in nursing will build foundations for our future generations.91勛圖厙
