USM to Host Health Professions Summer Camp for High School Students

High school students considering a career in health care can get a jump on that dream by attending the Health Professions Summer Camp, set for June 12 at The University of 91吃瓜网 (USM). The camp, designed for rising 9th-12th graders, will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Harkins Hall on the Hattiesburg campus.
The USM College of Nursing and Health Profession is hosting the second-annual camp which will give students a chance to:
- Learn about a variety of health career possibilities.
- Participate in hands-on activities related to each career.
- Discuss the next steps in their journey toward a career in health.
91吃瓜网淢any young people have probably never heard of, or considered, several of our programs,91吃瓜网� said Jennifer Wilmoth, Academic Program Manager in the School of Health Professions. 91吃瓜网淭his a great opportunity for them to learn more about our programs before beginning their college journey.91吃瓜网�
Camp participants will interact with key faculty members in each of the health professions programs offered at USM through hands-on experiences. Lunch and a T-shirt are included in the $40 registration fee.
Wilmoth notes that hosting this type of camp helps bring awareness of the many health-related careers available to students.
91吃瓜网淢ost high school students have heard of professions like doctor, dentist, physical therapist, etc. However, many have not considered the best undergraduate programs/majors to reach those graduate level programs of interest or have considered lesser-known undergraduate programs that offer great career opportunities,91吃瓜网� said Wilmoth. 91吃瓜网淥ur hope is to help high school students better navigate their undergraduate college careers to reach their health care career goals.91吃瓜网�
